Indore: Nearly a fortnight after birth, one of the three cubs of lioness Sundari, was found dead outside the den at the Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya.
The other two cubs are still inside the den and the zoo authorities are hoping that they are still alive.
“We had found one of the cubs of lioness Sundari outside the den in the enclosure. The cub was apparently weak which is why it couldn’t survive.

The other two cannot be seen as they’re still with Sundari,” a source from the zoo told TOI wishing anonymity.
Lioness Sundari had delivered three healthy cubs at Indore zoo on November 28. Considering that the first two months after birth are slightly risky as the cubs are always vulnerable to infections, no employee has been allowed to go near them. As the cubs were birthed inside the den, the zoo employees haven’t yet saw them except for the one dead either.
This was the second litter of the 5.5 year-old lioness after a gap of 2.5 years. After the death of this cub, Indore zoo now has 14 Asiatic lions.
The zoo authority has been planning to exchange a pair of Lion for Zebra under zoo exchange programme.
